Pressing Matters
William

As September rolls in we can breathe a sigh of relief that Austin's record-breaking heat will soon be over. As we look forward to football, Pecan Street Festival and other events of the season, it's time to start fall fresh. The look this fall includes pencil skirts, plaids, ruffles and layers of clothing. Under those layers you should never forget the importance of a good shirt. A great shirt is the foundation of a great outfit. We've put together a list of shirt buying tips we hope you will find useful the next time you head out to shop. Don't forget about our Sanitone Platinum Shirt service that is specifically formulated to work at lower water temperatures which significantly reduce shrinkage, graying and fraying.

DON'T BE HOT UNDER THE COLLAR....
SHIRT BUYING CHECKLIST

When buying shirts...

  • Do not buy No Iron or Wrinkle Resistant shirts. They are not designed for the temperatures of professional laundry finishing equipment.
  • Buy shirts with at least 65% cotton. Cotton is more durable and breathes better.
  • Beware of woven patterns like stripes, checks, plaids, etc. These are often sulfur dyed and the colored yarns may disintegrate over time when professionally laundered.
  • Look for collars and cuffs that are sewn, not glued. To test, rub the fabric between you thumb and finger. The two layers should feel soft and should separate easily.
  • Plastic buttons that have raised ridges around the edge crack the most. The ultra thick buttons of some designer shirts are almost impossible for drycleaners to purchase. Try to ask for extras when you purchase your shirt.
  • The average shirt's life expectancy is about two years. If you wear your shirt once a week and get it laundered each time, all year long, it will probably be time to invest in another shirt by the end of the year.
